Lesson 01: How This Works and What to Expect
This is the beginning of a new way of approaching your recovery, one that is built on safety, ease, and self-compassion.
Welcome from Amari
The first thing I want you to do is to give yourself the message of worthiness. Really give yourself a heartfelt congratulations. By being here, you are making a brave decision to try something new, and you are turning your attention to yourself in a way that is very out of the ordinary.
This recovery path takes courage. It may be that many people in your life don’t understand what you are going through, and so it is very tough. I am glad that this page has found you… I hope it will be useful for you, and I encourage you to be proud of yourself for showing up today.
From Searching to Healing
So many people with chronic illness have been working so hard to find answers, searching for solutions, and trying everything possible to get better. This resource is here to help you shift out of the stressful “searching” mode. Instead of more protocols, restrictions, or complicated techniques, I will guide you in creating the right conditions for your body and mind to settle into safety.
Even though you have put in months or years, or for some people, decades already, see if you can approach this like a new beginning… or if that’s difficult, you could think of it like a new job. We can call that new job “healing work.”
I am calling it “work” because I want you to start to differentiate between real rest (the kind that actually helps you feel restored!) and the pressures of all the healing work you have been doing up to now, including thinking, planning, making appointments, trying protocols, and searching for answers.
How to Use This Mini Course
- Try to visit these lessons regularly – that could be daily or a few times a week, just for a few minutes.
- Take your time. There is no rush to get to the end, and there is nothing you need to “achieve.”
- This recovery path works through consistent, repeated experiences, not through force.
- Give yourself permission to go at your own pace. Absorbing information can be difficult, so don’t worry if you re-read the same article several times. The thought may pop up that you aren’t “progressing.” But that is an old program, possibly from school, and it’s good to realise that by being here – you are already doing enough.
Become Present in this moment
Take a breath now and just feel where you are, come into the present moment. You can put your hand on your heart and see if you can feel the breath going in and out of your body, if you can feel the sensation of your hand making contact. However you are right now, that's okay.
A short Meditation
Now you have done great work in reading all of this. It’s time to try a restorative rest and then how about a hot drink or a nice reward for yourself?
Here is a video I would like you to listen to (it’s just audio). You can just stay where you are and play this ten minute meditation. After it is playing, close your eyes (if you can).
You don’t need to concentrate or worry about what the words mean.
Just sit there or lie there.
Let it play. That’s all.
Well done! 💗 Your first lesson is complete 💗
Take a moment to let this settle. There’s no rush. Giving your nervous system time to absorb and integrate is part of the foundation for recovery.
If it feels right, you can return tomorrow for your next lesson. But if you feel called to continue now, you are welcome to explore the private meditations resource which contains exclusive restorative meditation resources that support recovery.
