Welcome to The First Steps to Recovery
This mini-course is designed for people who are ready to review and deepen the foundations of recovery. It helps you remember what truly supports healing; understanding, safety, and structure, rather than chasing new information. These lessons reinforce what we explore in coaching, helping you integrate it as you make progress on the journey.
You’ll explore or revisit why your mind and body respond the way they do, how chronic illness is linked to nervous system dysregulation, and how to begin shifting out of survival mode. You’ll also create a healing space and reduce daily stressors; supporting regulation, restoration, and steadiness. This work lays the foundation for everything that follows, and serves as a reminder of the core principles we return to throughout your recovery.
Introduction to this Mini Course
Healing is not about doing more; it’s about creating the right conditions for your body and mind to shift from survival mode into restoration. These lessons help you revise and reinforce the principles we use in session, so your nervous system learns safety through repetition and practice.
There’s no need to rush or achieve – momentum and progress happen through steady repetition and awareness. Use this mini-course to remind yourself of what matters most, and come back to these principles whenever you need to reset or refocus. Each return builds the foundation for lasting change and a new way forward.
Pause for a moment and take a slow, steady breath. Each step you take, no matter how small, helps retrain your system and build safety from within. Keep returning to these foundations whenever you need to reset.

Lesson 1: How This Works & What to Expect
This lesson introduces the mini-course and how to use through the lessons. You explore how this will supportive, helping shift from searching for answers to creating the conditions for recovery. The mini-course is here to remind you of what works, help you stay steady between sessions, and guide your system toward safety, one small, meaningful step at a time.
Lesson 2: Introduction to the Nervous System
If you’ve ever felt like your body has betrayed you, this lesson is for you. Your body is not broken, and you are not failing. Chronic illness is deeply connected to nervous system dysregulation; meaning your system is stuck in survival mode and unable to shift into a state that allows healing.
Lesson 3: Creating a Healing Space
Your environment plays a huge role in signaling safety to your nervous system and brain. This lesson guides you in creating a cosy space that sends a message of self-care and safety to your nervous system, making deep relaxation and structured rests more effective.
Lesson 4: Softening Your Internal Environment
The recovery journey is not just about what you do — it’s also about the environment you are in. Both your external and internal environments can either support or strain your Mindbody system. This lesson explores how mental overstimulation affects recovery and how to ease off activities that keep your system stuck in stress mode.
The Invitation for you
Before we begin, know that you are not alone in this journey. Each lesson is here to support you gently, at your own pace. There is no rush, no pressure—only small, meaningful steps toward recovery.
When you’re ready, you are invited to begin the first lesson below: How This Works and What to Expect.
Dear Reader,
You can return to this page anytime as part of your ongoing practice. Think of it as a place for revision and reinforcement; to remind yourself what to focus on, and to reconnect with the principles guiding your recovery. One lesson per day (or less) is enough. Progress comes through consistency, not speed.
